Ulliance reaches 25-year milestone offering human resources services
Growth includes expanded service lines; adding international clientele since opening
TROY, Mich. – Ulliance, Inc. (Ulliance) is celebrating its silver anniversary this year. This international service company has grown to serve more than 260 organizations across the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe since opening in 1990. Ulliance provides human resources services including employee assistance programs (EAP), wellness programs, training services, organizational and leadership development consulting, an ethics reporting hotline, career transition services, and crisis management. These services help organizations reduce behavioral health care costs and increase employee productivity and retention, while helping to build a stronger culture for organizations. Now in its 25th year, Ulliance has grown from offering one service, EAP, to seven complementary service lines while achieving major business milestones along the way.
“After a quarter of a century in business, Ulliance’s success has been achieved not only through our hard work, positive client relationships and business referrals but through our incredible workforce,” said Kent Sharkey, president, chief executive officer and founder of Ulliance. “Our business is people and our business success is due to our own. Simply stated, people matter,” said Sharkey.
Major Business Milestones
In 1990, Ulliance opened its doors in a shared office setting in Troy, Michigan with a service line called EAP to help employees balance personal life with their work life. Two years later, Ulliance hired its first therapist in response to an emerging service field for EAP services. In 1993, Ulliance reached international status by expanding its services to Canada, and then continuing to serve clients in Mexico and Europe. In 2012, the State of Michigan awarded a major contract to Ulliance as day-to-day operations program manager to oversee the state program designed to support health professionals. In 2014, Ulliance reached record revenue and in 2015, Sharkey was selected as a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® Awards in the Michigan and Northwest Ohio region.
Expansion of Services
Ulliance began introducing new service lines in 2001, including Human Effectiveness Training (HET) to help educate employees about important workplace topics including diversity, harassment, healthy behaviors, team building, and development among others. In the midst of the economic recession, Ulliance introduced Career Transition Services (CTS) helping guide businesses during staff reductions to assist employees during transitions in the job market. Ulliance also created Life Advisor Wellness to help improve overall employee health while decreasing employee health risks and lowering company’s healthcare costs. To help employees report company issues anonymously, Ulliance introduced Voice Your Concern Report Line in 2005 to provide a confidential number to report workplace concerns while offering positive solutions to employees. In 2008, Ulliance formed the organizational and leadership development service line to help executives strengthen supervisory and management skills. Since the beginning having never lost sight of the company’s vital mission, “to make a difference in the lives of the people we help,” Crisis Incident Management services have been available to aid businesses with expert support during times of crisis.
Ulliance has provided health and wellness programs to nearly one million people spanning two continents. The company has nearly 20,000 providers in its professional network and continues to actively pursue strategic partnerships with organizations that provide complementary benefits and services.
