Program Summary:
Director Barnes’ presentation to Human Resource professionals will detail how the MVAA can help employers target their recruitment and identify transitioning talent for employment. This is a must-attend event for HR professionals wanting the most current information on the benefits of onboarding those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

About the Presenter:
Jeff Barnes holds a Governor’s cabinet-level position as Director of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA), having previously served as the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Director of Strategy, and Executive Director of Public Safety. His military career included 10 years as an Armored Cavalry Officer with four tours, including two in Iraq, one in Korea, and one in the Balkans. For his service, Barnes received two Bronze Stars with Valor Device, a Meritorious Service Medal, a Combat Action Badge, and induction into the Honorary Order of St. George for Outstanding Leadership in Combat.

About the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA):
The MVAA serves as the central coordinating point, connecting those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and their families to services and benefits throughout the state. MVAA is responsible for administration and operation of the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund, Michigan Veterans Homeowners Assistance Program, and the Michigan Association of County Veterans Counselors, among other resources.

Program Objectives:

  • Learn how the MVAA can assist in identifying transitioning talent from the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Be able to identify resources to help translate employment skills from military experience and education.
  • Learn the most current and proposed aid programs to onboarding transitioning U.S.Armed Forces personnel.
